Baloo Living Gives Back

While the brand aims to facilitate comfort and quality sleep for its customers, it also believes every child deserves a healthy bedtime routine. To support this cause Baloo Living donates a portion of its profits to an organization called Pajama Program. This nonprofit partners with thousands of schools, shelters, group homes, and community organizations to provide bedtime comforts via new books, sleep health education, and caring connections.

Discover 6 Ways Organic Cotton Is Better For the Environment

Sleep Soundly Surrounded by Natural Materials

Baloo Living takes an environmental approach to its material selections. Lead-free glass beads fill its weighted blankets, throws, and comforters, providing a much cleaner option compared to the ubiquitous plastic poly pellets used in many weighted blankets. It also makes the blankets washable and recyclable. The glass beads also provide a thinner and less bulky blanket while comforting with the same weight. Plus, they are hypoallergenic and offer a smooth feel for anyone with tactile sensitivities. For the fabric, Baloo uses 100% chemical-free certified cotton.

Baloo Living’s Additional Sustainability Practices

Up and down the supply chain, Baloo bases decisions on the planet and the customer in equal portions. For example, the company uses only plastic-free packaging. While the production of any product leaves some form of carbon footprint, Baloo offsets residual carbon through partnerships like the one with SeaTrees.org. This supports the restoration of coastal mangrove and kelp forests, which offer thirsty carbon absorption at a rate of five to ten times that of notable rainforests. These efforts mean Baloo is now both carbon neutral and ocean positive.

Baloo Living Weighted Blanket Review

Upon responding to an offer for product samples, Baloo sent a Luna Blue Weighted Blanket in the Throw size. It measures 42” x 72” and weighs 12 pounds. The packaging was minimalistic and waste-free–just a cardboard box with the blanket inside. The blanket was tucked inside a really nice reusable canvas tote.

I’ve never really considered buying a weighted blanket. I don’t like to be pinned down and thought I wouldn’t like the pressure on my feet, so when I opened the package I was thinking about how I could regift it for Christmas. Sorry friends and family, I’m keeping it and loving it. In fact, it’s become somewhat of an appendage, in all the best ways. Chilly fall days find me bundled up at my desk, so after sitting here for a few days, I pulled the blanket onto my lap. The love was instant.

Although it feels heavy to lift, the weight distributes across my body, delivering a comforting and therapeutic effect. It drapes nicely to the sides and doesn’t slide off when I shift or uncross and recross my legs. It’s warm, but not stifling, smothering, or restrictive.

Tabs attached around the blanket are perfect finger grips, anchors, or tool to attach the Cotton Weighted Throw Cover. The edge stitching and quilting are tight, with no loose threads. The Baloo Throw Weighted Blanket is now a constant while I’m working at my desk, but I’ve also started using it as an extra layer on my side of the bed and as a cozy cuddler while on the couch. It offers a rich color and soft feel. Plus, I feel good knowing it’s not ‘weighted’ down with chemical additives. I don’t love that it’s made in China, however, and would prefer to see manufacturing shifted to the United States.

Baloo Living Cloud Booties Review

The cloud booties are also nice. I appreciate the plastic-free packaging, and will put the nice little cotton bag they came in to good use. They are a relatively thin slipper with a soft feel. On colder days, I wear socks underneath for an added layer of warmth. When it’s warmer, I enjoy the breathability so my feet don’t sweat.

Although they have a solid bottom, they are meant for indoor use only. While they’re great for cozying up on the couch, I find them to be a bit slippery on some flooring, so use a bit of caution. I’ll also express my disappointment that they have a polyester lining (contains plastic) and that they don’t recommend machine washing. By spot cleaning only, I question whether they will be difficult to keep clean and, at this price point, ease of care is paramount.

I do love the cut and fit of these booties. They maintain true sizing, offer an appropriate width, and I adore how they rise above the ankles, although they look great when folded down too.
